Hope & Heavy Metal

Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen | Dansmakers Amsterdam

Anarchistically extrovert, and restrained solo breaks with conventions concerning the female body

The up-and-coming choreographer Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen won the Moving Forward Young Dancers Award and was offered a development program during which she created Hope & Heavy Metal. Together with musician and visual artist Juliet Aaltonen, she shows a young woman filled with personal memories, ideals, and songs misfiring in her head. Wild and rough, and then restrained, the solo breaks with conventional ideas concerning the female body. The body explores the physical effects of loneliness, anger, and sensuality and attempts to reclaim command. Hope & Heavy Metal is a mild appeal to forever reign in male dominance.
