Stephen Shropshire is known for his detailed and virtuoso movement language and musical sensibility. His last duet We Are Nowhere Else But Here, made to the music of Beethoven and Schubert, was widely acclaimed and received the Swan for ‘most impressive dance production 2018’. In a commission from Stiftsmusik Stuttgart, he now takes the 18th century Cantata BWV 82 by Bach as a point of departure, placing the constant transformation of people’s lives at the center of the work. The dancers engage in an intense interplay with both the music of Bach as well as a new composition by the internationally acclaimed composer Thom Willems, and poignantly reveal the essence of human existence.
